Rosanne Cash loves local art!

Local painter and Artspace mover and shaker, Beth Loraine Bowman, got a surprising tweet today from famed country singer Rosanne Cash (yep, daughter of Johnny Cash). Apparently, Cash thinks Beth's art is awesome. What a cool way to start off Saturday morning, eh?

Jeremy Messersmith blowin' up on the interwebz!

Hot on the heels of the yesterday's release of Jeremy Messersmith's video for his song "Tatooine," the national media, pop culture aficianados and nerds the world over (including Wil Wheaton) have been heralding the local popster.

The video, created by filmmaker/animator, Eric Power, wraps up the Star Wars trilogy in a creative and whimsical way - with paper cut outs. Too cute!

As of today, Messersmith's new vid has been featured on just about every cool blog out there, including Wired, Nylon, New York Magazine and many more, even prompting local tweeter @caerickson to say: "I think @jmessersmith is officially an internet meme now."

A peek at Jeremy's twitter feed even includes a shout out from Wil Wheaton (a.k.a. Star Trek's Wesley Crusher). TOTALLY AWESOME. Go Jeremy!!!!

The State Fair is Here!

Rejoice Minnesotans, the State Fair is back! How was the first day? Well, we tracked your tweets through #MNstatefair and #statefair hashtags and our conclusion is: you ate a lot (mostly things that put KFC's Double Down to shame) and you were mega excited to see Boyz II Men.

Project M "welcomes home" residents of the Whittier 'hood

An LOL/OMG tipster clued us in on a neat guerrilla art attack that happened this weekend! Project M is a group of art school kids who distributed over 300 "Welcome Home" mats in the Whittier neighborhood early Sunday morning. The project is intended to "bring a sense of home community and pride, belonging and to send a creative urban message within Whittier." We think that's pretty cool -- and we really wish we would have gotten one of their arty mats on our doorstep!

It's official: LOL/OMG to host monthly social media party at the 501!

As of July 1st, LOL/OMG will be hosting a social media party every first Thursday of the month at the 501 Club!

What does this mean? Well, aside from creating a totally awesome Foursquare swarm, social media geeks will get a chance to mix, mingle, drink, tweet, and rock out with some of our favorite bands that have been featured on the blog!

More details to come, but mark your calendars for the kick off blow out on JULY 1ST at the 501!

Who would like a taste of "Nordeast," Grain Belt's new, Northeast Minneapolis inspired beer? Everybody, of course! Kare 11 reports that Nordeast will be available today at every bar and liquor store in northeast Minneapolis only, and released everywhere else Thursday.

City Pages debuts new art and fashion blog

We've had a hard time keeping a lid on this because we're so excited, but our pals at City Pages have just debuted a brand new blog: The Dressing Room! Focusing on fashion and art (and basically anything cultural that isn't music-related -- they'll leave that up to Gimme Noise) the new blog will feature awesome articles and interviews with Twin Cities creatives. Today's debut even includes a couple interviews (by yours truly!) with local art darling Jennifer Davis and jewelry maker/Fox news anchor Robyne Robinson (who, if you read LOL/OMG last week, you'll know just scored a gig making jewelry for Beyonce!)

We're diggin' the new look of City Pages website too!

Oh my Gaga!

City Pages @gimme_noise tweeted some very exciting news this morning! The one and only LADY GAGA will be playing a show on August 30th at the Xcel Energy Center! Deets are scant thus far, but Xcel has the confirmation on their site already. We're already planning our outfits.

Solid Gold debuts on MTV!

Local faves, Solid Gold, made their big debut on MTV on Tuesday! The new video for the soon-to-be-mega-hit "Matter of Time" is a colorful masterpiece, with an epic lighting concept created by SG cohort Bryant Locher. We LOVE!!!

Oh, City Pages, you totally "get" us.

City Pages music editor, Andrea Swensson, gave an awesome shout out to LOL/OMG today on the Gimme Noise blog. And we have to say she's right on the money with her description. Thanks Andrea!

Swensson links back to our post about Free Energy from last night and says, "First things first: Have you guys been reading this new LOL/OMG blog? As you can probably guess by the name, it's a fairly lighthearted approach to local gossip, and it's run by a few of my favorite Twitter users and bloggers. While it may not seem that the Twin Cities has a dire need for a gossip blog, these ladies do a nice job of keeping things fun (read: not bitchy) and pointing out some local tidbits that they've discovered via their various social media sites.
