MTV hearts Solid Gold

Though local darlings Solid Gold have been pretty quiet for the past year, they've been hard at work on a new album and playing the occasional live show. Despite the lack of activity, MTV has featured the band on their "Bands We Like" blog. The reviewer writes: "I was lucky enough to see them perform a batch of new tunes live recently, and one song was notably much louder and aggressive than their previous efforts (in the best way possible). Having heard these new tunes, I predict this new effort from them could be my 'Album of the Year.'" We think so, too.

MTV Hearts Doomtree

They do, they do! Here, see for yourself: MTV featured Doomtree as no.1 band SXSW Band You Need to Know saying:

Dessa, P.O.S, Cecil Otter, Mike Michtlan, SIMS and the rest of the Doomtree crew blew up like a Dumpster full of dynamite, showcasing enough collective energy, rhythm, hustle and flow to make us wonder why these guys (and girl!) aren't playing the Super Bowl halftime show.

Good job guys!

Dearling Physique gets props on MTV's IGGY blog

With the official release of their first full-length album, Deadeye Dealer, enigmatic local act Dearling Physique is causing quite a stir. Factoring in a highly anticipated album release show tonight at the Entry, a music video premiere on Friday at the Uptown Apple store, and a gracious, gushing nod from MTV's IGGY blog, we thinks the mesmerizing electronic act is headed for a major break out.

MTV blogs:

"Dearling Physique's Deadeye Dealer is just so unusual. It’s an ambitious and intellectually challenging album that you won’t want to end. It’s chameleon-like, with disparate influences, and yet it is more coherent than most collections of songs crammed into an album format. Its contradictions unify it. In short, it’s the kind of album that signals the arrival of a new iconoclastic voice in pop."

Congrats, guys!

Dessa Talks to MTV

So, are we the only ones who didn't know MTV had a Book Club? Anyhow, MTV folks have asked our girl Dessa to tell them about her favorite author/book. Dessa's pick? "Consider the Lobster", a collection of nonfiction essays by the late David Foster Wallace. Dessa elaborates, amongst other things, on being inspired by Wallace, how her last album contains references to multiple books and why she likes Leonard Cohen. She also mentions that she seldom reads anything twice, which interestingly enough, was the thing local Twitterers thought was "intriguing." Dessa eventually responded with a tweet:

To which this guy replied:

Dessa didn't bother responding again. Guess why? She is reading, duh!

Solid Gold to host MTV2's 'Subterranean' this Sunday

We heard a great bit of gossip about MPLS' home-bred electroteers, Solid Gold straight from the mouth of 89.3 The Current DJ, Bill DeVille, this morning. It seems even the music officials at MTV can't seem to escape the charm the boys possess. Not even two weeks since their “Matter of Time” video premiere, MTV2 has summoned the band back to guest host this weekend's edition of the insomniac alt-staple, Subterranean - a weekly music show featuring videos and interview segments from indie and underground artists. Stay up late with the dance-rock members as they spin the hottest videos in indie culture – including new ones from Julian Casablancas, Hot Chip, Spoon – and, of course, chat about their own vid. The episode airs locally at 1am Sunday night – aka Monday morning.
