Local writer/journalist Molly Priesmeyer has a new Tumblr blog that you should know about. It's called Tiny Yurt and it's going to be a place for this prolific writer to.. well... write! The first post, published just this morning is a story of a guy named Shit Charlie. See, it's already good.

"Charlie didn’t call himself “Shit Charlie.” But he might as well have. Charlie fancied himself a superhero who could make bad things magically disappear. “Did they tell you about me?” he asked, his Texas drawl so thick it could hang suspended in midair all by itself, like paper strands of DNA. “If you crap anywhere in Northern Honduras. And I mean ANYWHERE. I’m the guy in charge of getting rid of it."

Birthday Suits Tumbl Across Europe

Think you you don’t need another Tumblr to check in on every day? Think again. Hometown punk rockers Birthday Suits are currently touring Europe, keeping a detailed and hilarious tour diary complete with tons of photos along the way. Some of it is beautiful, some is a bit harrowing but mostly it’s just laugh out loud funny. From their friend’s accidental half-nakedness in front of a host’s mother to the ups and downs of the food and a picture of a bathroom that looks straight out of an Eli Roth film, this is something you really should not miss. If we haven’t convinced you yet, here are some choice, unedited quotes:

From Switzerland: “We had a one opening band tonight. Some of us asked the promoter where the opening band were from. He told us they were from a mountain. This was great. We’ve never played with a band from a mountain.”

From France: “We stayed at Lupin’s [their promoter] friends place. His friend had three roommate, Two of them spoke really good English. They were speaking American English not British. We were talking about how great their English was and later we found out one of them was actual an American and the other one was a Mexican who grow up in the US. I’m sure they were happy three Japanese immigrants complimenting their own language.”

From Portugal: “Since we had a short to drive to Aveiro, we had a lot of time to walk around in Porto today. We enjoyed the sightseeing and took many pictures like what Japanese tourists supposed to do.”

Nicole Brenny of WaxxMaxx releases solo teaser online

Nicole Brenny a.k.a. the front-lady for local electronic outfit, WaxxMaxx, just released a tasty sample from her brand new solo side project. The track, "Best Nights" is a quirky/cool, multi-layered beat that blends ethereal vocals with unusual arrangements. We love it!

Brenny, who will be making a move to Montreal within the next few months, plans to continue working on WaxxMaxx with Mark Mallman, long-distance, while focusing on her own solo work at the same time. We can't wait to see what she comes up with next!

Dearling Physique gets props on MTV's IGGY blog

With the official release of their first full-length album, Deadeye Dealer, enigmatic local act Dearling Physique is causing quite a stir. Factoring in a highly anticipated album release show tonight at the Entry, a music video premiere on Friday at the Uptown Apple store, and a gracious, gushing nod from MTV's IGGY blog, we thinks the mesmerizing electronic act is headed for a major break out.

Cyn Collins declares LOL/OMG events a good place to "hook up"

TC Daily Planet writer/KFAI radio host/music booker/gal about town, Cyn Collins, has given us the ultimate shout out in her latest article, "Hook-up redux: The best places to meet hot singles in 2010."

Along with mentioning other cool bars and venues around town, Cyn gives props to us (and our sister-site, l'etoile), saying:

"LOL/OMG events and l'etoile field trips (for example, Weisman Art Museum nights of hot music and art and scenesters). Everywhere LOL/OMG and l'etoile go, there's an entourage of beautiful, fun, intelligent, creative, hip, fashionable people."

She also gives Mark Mallman and our next LOL/OMG Social Media Meetup at the 501 Club a nice plug:

Jason DeRusha: American Hero

Yes, it's true. Our favorite WCCO fixture fame-whored himself out at Target Field on Wednesday to sing the national anthem "Take Me Out to the Ballgame." He actually has quite a nice singing voice, if you ask us!

Jason took to his DeBlog to tell the tale. And much like Jason DeRusha Day last year, all the media mogul had to do was mention it and opportunity came a-knockin'.

JD didn't exactly get VIP treatment, however. He notes a couple lessons learned on his blog:

You don't get a ticket to the game (the singers are usually already there for pregame stuff).

You don't get a jersey or anything (my wardrobe was my own).

You don't even get a free hot dog (I paid $5.25 for my grilled big dog with onions and bag of potato chips).

There is no echo in the stadium, which is cool, and made it much easier to sing. But it's hard to hear the organ, and that's my excuse for why I sound a bit flat. "Pitchy" to quote Simon Cowell.

Coco & Breezy vs. Danielle & Chantelle?

Ooooh snap! Locally bred models/designers Coco & Breezy moved to NYC just last year, and it seems like they may already have some seriously stylish twinsy competition in Danielle and Chantelle Piper!

We got an e-mail from NYC-based twin fashion mavens and models Danielle and Chantelle telling us about their line, Kastle Designs, and drawing our attention to a post on cool fashion blog, the Nine Forty Nine in which they talk about their work. Both sets of twins were featured on The Nine Forty Nine here and here. Could D&C have been lead to our lil' ol' LOL/OMG blog through researching internet stalking their cute counterparts? Obvious similarities between the twins are a bit uncanny: both are fashion models and designers (D&C do clothing, C&B do eyewear but have dabbled in apparel), and both are, well, for a lack of a better term, HOT.

Are you team Coco & Breezy or team Danielle & Chantelle? Personally, we think they should team up. After all, four pretty heads are better than two! However, if they were ever to brawl, our money would be on the badass Coco & Breezy -- Danielle and Chantelle just look so sweet and innocent!
