Jason vs. Jason

If you've been following Twitter at all today, you know the race is ON to see who can raise the most moola for a good cause! Both Jason Matheson and Jason DeRusha are heading up fundraising efforts for the United Way. On one side, we have Matheson as captain of Team Shelter, on the other, DeRusha as captain of Team Hunger. Other personalities Vineeta Sawkara and Rena Sarigianopoulos head up teams for literacy and wellness.

AND, after careful consideration LOL/OMG has decided to officially endorse DeRusha - our fellow unapologetic social media whore. He's currently in last place and we always like a good underdog. Vote for your favorite Team Hunger HERE.

Update: Team Hunger has climbed into 3rd place!

But we have to give props where props are due: Today, Matheson released a hilarious video encouraging people to stop Jason DeRusha's ego from getting any bigger by voting for team Shelter. We can't wait for the response video!

UPDATE: DeRusha tweeted us his own promo video. And while he doesn't really take any jabs at Matheson, he does randomly manage to sit under a Save Canvas sign (#street cred) while eating a tub of butter.

Jason DeRusha: American Hero

Yes, it's true. Our favorite WCCO fixture fame-whored himself out at Target Field on Wednesday to sing the national anthem "Take Me Out to the Ballgame." He actually has quite a nice singing voice, if you ask us!

Jason took to his DeBlog to tell the tale. And much like Jason DeRusha Day last year, all the media mogul had to do was mention it and opportunity came a-knockin'.

JD didn't exactly get VIP treatment, however. He notes a couple lessons learned on his blog:

You don't get a ticket to the game (the singers are usually already there for pregame stuff).

You don't get a jersey or anything (my wardrobe was my own).

You don't even get a free hot dog (I paid $5.25 for my grilled big dog with onions and bag of potato chips).

There is no echo in the stadium, which is cool, and made it much easier to sing. But it's hard to hear the organ, and that's my excuse for why I sound a bit flat. "Pitchy" to quote Simon Cowell.

Will the real DeRusha please stand up?

You know you're reached a certain level of fame when you get your own online impersonator. Michael Bay has one, Rahm Emmanuel has one, and now WCCO's Jason DeRusha has one too. Famed local TV persona who in the recent years has established a very strong presence on the local intranetz, posted this on his Twitter page this morning:


Fake DeRusha, who's been secretly tweeting since last October, cleverly mocks real DeRusha's trademarks: good question and jason cam, the daily features he runs on WCCO. Good question turns into bad question and jason cam becomes not jason cam. Get it? This guy (or a girl?) is like Jon Bovi, the Bon Jovi opposite cover band from SNL! Real DeRusha is being gracious about the entire thing, as we expected him to be. But I am sure he is dying to know who is behind this initiative? Do you have any suspects??
