Nicole Brenny of WaxxMaxx releases solo teaser online

Nicole Brenny a.k.a. the front-lady for local electronic outfit, WaxxMaxx, just released a tasty sample from her brand new solo side project. The track, "Best Nights" is a quirky/cool, multi-layered beat that blends ethereal vocals with unusual arrangements. We love it!

Brenny, who will be making a move to Montreal within the next few months, plans to continue working on WaxxMaxx with Mark Mallman, long-distance, while focusing on her own solo work at the same time. We can't wait to see what she comes up with next!

Live music at the Apple store!

Whether you're an iphone/ipod/ipad/mac addict or not, you really need to check out the new Apple Store in Uptown. Not only is the space absolutely gorgeous with a pretty cool "secret" rooftop, but they also have in-store events that promote local talent - and we think that's pretty kewl. Mayda, No Bird Sing, and Mystery Place are among the bands that have already performed as part of the weekly "Live at the Apple Store" series. Social media-savvy performance artists/musicians Dearling Physique are the next band to join the roster: their performance is scheduled for 7 p.m. this Saturday.

And don't forget your iphone - we want to see some non-ironic and/or ironic twitpix!

City Pages saves the day!

We know you were a little more than miffed when it was announced that the long-running Music & Movies in the Park series was to be canceled this year. We were miffed too. BUT, our pals at City Pages have stepped up to the plate to give the Twin Cities what it wants!

Andrea Swensson announces via Gimme Noise: Upon hearing that the event was in jeopardy and hearing the massive outcry from the Minneapolis community, City Pages and Lunds (who both have helped sponsor the event in the past) stepped forward to coordinate with the Park Board and ensure that the popular event would still go off without a hitch. Continuing in the spirit of the former "Music & Movies" series, we will showcase bands from the Twin Cities' diverse and historic music scene followed by a movie with Minnesota ties, selected by Twin Cities residents.

From June 28 to July 19, City Pages will hold an online poll to decide what movies to screen. The winning movies and band lineup will be announced on July 28.

Minnesota Music Day on 89.3 The Current this Saturday!

On Saturday, May 15th tune your dials to 89.3 The Current for an all-day local music hootenanny! Word is excitedly spreading via bloggers and social media outlets that the beloved radio station will be dedicating Saturday to locally-rooted tunesmiths past and present -- and they'll even be taking requests!

Along with all-day local programming, a number of weekly specialty shows will be pinpointing certain areas of interest:

"Teenage Kicks"-- 8-10 a.m. Saturday
Former Suicide Commandos front man Chris Osgood will join host Jacquie Fuller and share his take on the scene.

"Radio Free Current" with host David Campbell--7-11 p.m. Saturday
Will ask the audience for their picks of best local gems.

"Redefinition Radio" with host Kevin Beacham--11 p.m.-midnight Saturday
Will be dedicated to the local hip hop scene.

And be sure to check out MPR's Minnewiki filled with endless info on local bands -- it's really quite epic!
