Location: MN Film Event Announced at The Walker

Minnesota is no Hollywood, but a few really great movies like Trauma, Dario Argento's first US feature and Coen Brothers' Fargo were both shot right here in the Land of 10,000 Lakes. You will get to see both movies and much more this summer at the Walker Art Center, during Location: MN. The event, happening July 14-17, will showcase movies such as Purple Rain (duh!), Factotum, Mallrats, A Simple Plan, with introduction by directors, producers, and writers who brought the state to the big screen.

Four Nights in Loring lineup announced!

Remember how devastated we all were when we heard our favorite movie night, Music and Movies in the Park, was being canceled? Yes, that was not cool. But thanks to City Pages who lobbied on all of our behalf, we now have Four Nights in Loring: Local Bands, Local Films.

The first announcement came just over a month ago, revealing that the event will take place four consecutive Tuesdays this summer, August 3, 10, 17, and 24. A full line-up of bands/movies was announced today and it's pretty impressive: Communist Daughter, Marijuana Deathsquads, Mayda, Red Pens? We're so there. The organizers came up with a pretty good list of "local" movies: Raising Arizona and Fargo by the Coen Brothers, Diablo Cody's Juno, and Nobody, a movie directed and co-written by Minneapolis transfer and 40 Days and 40 Nights writer, Rob Perez. Bonus: following the movie screening each night, the action will move to Nick and Eddie for an official after party with awesome DJs and dranx.

Four Nights in Loring Voting now live!

This just in, via @gimme_noise: voting for the "Four Nights in Loring: Local Bands, Local Films" series is now live! Follow the link and vote for movies you want to see. Voting will be open from June 28 to July 19 and the winning movies and band line-up will be announced on July 28.

City Pages saves the day!

We know you were a little more than miffed when it was announced that the long-running Music & Movies in the Park series was to be canceled this year. We were miffed too. BUT, our pals at City Pages have stepped up to the plate to give the Twin Cities what it wants!

Andrea Swensson announces via Gimme Noise: Upon hearing that the event was in jeopardy and hearing the massive outcry from the Minneapolis community, City Pages and Lunds (who both have helped sponsor the event in the past) stepped forward to coordinate with the Park Board and ensure that the popular event would still go off without a hitch. Continuing in the spirit of the former "Music & Movies" series, we will showcase bands from the Twin Cities' diverse and historic music scene followed by a movie with Minnesota ties, selected by Twin Cities residents.

From June 28 to July 19, City Pages will hold an online poll to decide what movies to screen. The winning movies and band lineup will be announced on July 28.

We can't believe this is a news story

Thanks to the tip from Stuff About Minneapolis we heard of this WCCO story about a woman who had a nasty movie going experience. Sarah Kohl-Leif 's troubles started when she realized the theater only accepts cash or checks and the on-site ATM was out of cash. She borrowed the money from a friend and got in, only to be interrupted by theater staff five minutes into the movie. Apparently, there were eight people that were not supposed to be in the movie and in order to determine who they are, the theater staff used flashlights to check ticket stubs. Can you say annoying? The woman was so upset that she e-mailed theater owners, Evergreen Entertainment, to tell them about her experience.

One would think she would get a free ticket, or at least an apology. But no, company's vice president Steven Payne personally responded telling Sarah: "drive to White Bear Lake and also go *&*% yourself,". Eighteen hours later, Payne sent another email, this time "sincerely" apologizing for his inappropriate response.

The lady has even started a Facebook page calling for a boycott of the theater. We love the internetz and all the ways people choose to waste their time. But really...how the hell is this a news story? And why did we write this post?
