The top three Bon Iver Grammys memes

We're admittedly a little late to the game here, but we figured we aught to do a Bon Iver post-Grammys meme roundup in case you have some catching up to do.

1. The band had already inspired a "Who is Bon Iver?" Tumblr, but after the Grammy wins, Twitter was awash with a new bout of confusion - chiefly, the "Who is Bonny Bear?" meme. Shortformblog.com and Hipster Runoff and others have offered their own takes on the meme:

2. The "Sweet Hookup" meme, so-named for Justin Vernon's charmingly goofy reaction to winning a Grammy in his acceptance speech, is another Bon Iver Grammy meme.

3. The Chicago improv troupe Funemployed - who infamously brought us the "Arcade Fire Hipster Attack" video - is back with "Bon Iver Is Not Bonny Bear," a fairly gory but funny take on the meme.

Bon Iver tour documentary previewed in Grammys video

Footage from the forthcoming Bon Iver tour documentary by local director Dan Huiting ("City of Music") has been featured in a couple of short video profiles on the band for the Grammys. We so can't wait for the full documentary to be released.

Bon Iver nominated for Grammys; "Who the Fuck Is Bon Iver?" tumblr is born

By now, you may have heard Bon Iver is up for four Grammy noms: Record of the Year, Song of the Year, Best New Artist, and Best Alternative Music Album. Pitchfork's story on the news noted these hilarious Tweets Justin Vernon posted just moments after the nominations were announced:

It's already been cause for everyone begging the question, “Will Bon Iver be the Arcade Fire of 2012?” (as did New York’s Village Voice Grammy nominations preview yesterday). Ben Clark (AKA @trikno) was the first to Tweet, “Who the fuck is Bon Iver?” in reference to a blog started last year around the Arcade Fire’s surprise win. And indeed, a similar tumblr site has already started up. (We wish we would have thought of it first.) And some hilarious Tweets from the confused masses, via Who the Fuck Is Bon Iver?:

Ringo Starr wears Electric Fetus t-shirt at the Grammys!

Aw! @Solace (whose wife was first to spot it) and @POP_INC tweet a pic from TMZ that features the iconic Beatle wearing a t-shirt from our own hometown record store, the Electric Fetus, at the Grammys tonight! How awesome is that?


UPDATE: Earlier today, Star Tribune's Jon Bream ousted Vita.mn events director Christian-Philippe Quilici, Ringo's nephew, as the local connection between the shirt and the rock legend.

Last month, CPQ requested we take down a previous post that contained info on his family connections and we, of course, graciously complied, but after this report surface, he's come clean about his connection to Ringo on Vita.mn. In a nice twist, the event has given national exposure to Electric Fetus, which is holding a fundraiser show later this month to raise funds for repairs sustained during last year's tornado.

From CPQ's post: "My aunt and uncle e-mailed me this morning in response to my amazement at 'the shirt that set Minneapolis hipster Twitter-feeds aflame' last night and they expressed their support for the store especially in light of their fund-raising efforts to repair the tornado damage from this past summer. They lamented that they 'don't see many record stores around anymore' and were happy to play what little part they could in celebrating the Electric Fetus."

We think it's pretty great that CPQ's family connection has brought attention to independent record stores in general, and Electric Fetus in particular during this challenging time for them.
