Footage from the forthcoming Bon Iver tour documentary by local director Dan Huiting ("City of Music") has been featured in a couple of short video profiles on the band for the Grammys. We so can't wait for the full documentary to be released.

Local director's video for Kathleen Edwards premieres

The music video for Kathleen Edwards' "Change the Sheets" premiered today, and it comes courtesy of prolific local director Dan Huiting. Huiting's the man behind City of Music (which recently partnered with Pitchfork) and was also a major contributor to the Time.com-lauded video version of Bon Iver's self-titled album. (The sort-of local connection: Edwards is Justin Vernon of Bon Iver's girlfriend.) Bonus: Erik Hess, a super talented local photographer, also helped shoot some of the time lapses in the video.

Bon Iver nominated for Grammys; "Who the Fuck Is Bon Iver?" tumblr is born

By now, you may have heard Bon Iver is up for four Grammy noms: Record of the Year, Song of the Year, Best New Artist, and Best Alternative Music Album. Pitchfork's story on the news noted these hilarious Tweets Justin Vernon posted just moments after the nominations were announced:

It's already been cause for everyone begging the question, “Will Bon Iver be the Arcade Fire of 2012?” (as did New York’s Village Voice Grammy nominations preview yesterday). Ben Clark (AKA @trikno) was the first to Tweet, “Who the fuck is Bon Iver?” in reference to a blog started last year around the Arcade Fire’s surprise win. YouTube features Bon Iver videos made by locals on main page today

How cool is this?! YouTube has jumped on the Bon Iver bandwagon upon the release of his just-release suite of music videos that accompany each song on his self-titled release. We know by now that locals Dan Huiting, Isaac Gale, David Jensen, and JoLynn Garnes worked on those videos, but YouTube has taken it a step further and featured videos from the directors featured on that album. That means videos from the directors' archives including Doomtree, Lazerbeak, Astronautalis, GAYNGS, Heiruspecs, and MN Original, featured on YouTube's main page today. Head over there now to watch the videos.



And in other Bon Iver news, his video album has snagged some high-profile press on Time.com and the Fader. Minnesota boys, you done good.

City of Music heads to Pitchfork

Local director Dan Huiting just announced some big news via Facebook today. City of Music - MPLS.TV's ongoing live music video series - will now have a national series on Pitchfork. He also reported that they're currently shooting the first episode shooting earlier today with Toro Y Moi, which was in town last night for a show at Triple Rock Social Club. We say it's well deserved. Congrats, guys!

Gale & Huiting collab for Colin Stetson video

Today Pitchfork premiered the new video for "The Stars in His Head" by Montreal-based saxophonist Colin Stetson (Bon Iver, Arcade Fire, Bell Orchestre), which was directed by local luminaries Isaac Gale and Daniel Weekly Huiting with art direction by David Jensen. Pretty spooky/intense/beautiful, guys!

The Mountain Goats < 3 Brute Heart

Bon Iver backstage at The Colbert Report

A bevy of Minneapolis peeps were in New York for Bon Iver's interview and performance on The Colbert Report yesterday.

New Bon Iver video released

Scream! Eau Claire native/Minneapolis pal/Gayngs cohort/general genius Justin Vernon and his band Bon Iver just released the new video for "Calgary" and it's simply beautiful. Would you expect anything less? Especially when you factor in all the local flavor that went into making the video: local directors Dan Huiting and Andre Durand make visual magic with the addition of a local cast, including model Raina Hein (the Minneapolis model who you may remember from her stint on America's Next Top Model a couple of years ago) and many more.

In addition, Vernon scored the cover of Spin this month. So cool!

Video: Gramma's Boyfriend performs for City of Music

Haley Bonar's new side project Gramma's Boyfriend just got the City of Music treatment, courtesy of MPLS.TV and our pals over at Gimme Noise, as directed by the amazing Dan Huiting. The new project includes Bonar’s longtime mates Michael Lewis, Jeremy Ylvisaker, Luke Anderson, and Jacob Hanson, but is decidedly rowdier than her solo material.

Sims performs for City of Music, gives tour of Mpls

Via our pals at Gimme Noise, Dan Huiting of MPLS.TV's City of Music did a fun video with Doomtree emcee Sims (who also just did an impromptu performance at Saturday's MPLS.TV taping at the Sound Gallery). Joined by beatmaker Lazerbeak, Sims brings us through the streets of Minneapolis and to the crew's longtime hangout, Muddy Waters, with their performance of the title track off Sims' new solo album, Bad Time Zoo.

First Avenue's Best New Bands showcase video recap

City of Music's Dan Huiting was running around First Avenue on Wednesday for First Avenue's annual Best New Bands showcase, and he got some great footage - including The Tangential's Jay Gabler jamming to BadNraD. Video recap of City Pages' Gimme Shelter benefit event

The video gurus at Mpls.TV team up with Dan Huiting and Anthem Heart A/V to bring you a recap of the most rockin' event of the weekend. City Pages' Gimme Shelter benefit for Haiti blew the roof of the Ave with sets from the likes of Mark Mallman, Solid Gold, Zoo Animal and Peter Wolf Crier and featured an artist showcase that included work by local talents like Chuck U, Rogue Citizen, Garrett Perry, Jesse Draxler and more.
