Transmission moves to the Mainroom - one night only!

DJ Jake Rudh announced something fun via Twitter today:

We're crossing our fingers for an old school Sunday Night Dance Party-style bash. Maybe Jake will even take our requests for Lush, Jesus & Mary Chain, The Cure, etc via a clipboard up by the sound booth (does anyone else remember that???)

Jake Rudh makes the semi-finals in the "Mad Men" contest

It happened! For the second year running, local contestant and DJ about town Jake Rudh has made it to the semi-finals of AMC's "Mad Men" contest. Unfortunately, Jessa Alt - who had a good fighting chance until she was questionably eliminated, didn't get enough votes in her second attempt to make it into the Top 10.

Jake had this to say on his Facebook page: "If I could say thank you 14,448 times I would. It's in the hands of Mad Men creator Matthew Weiner now. I really can't thank the hundreds of you who voted everyday enough. To the rest of you, thank you for putting up with all of the posts. It really was a necessary evil, and I'm glad most of you saw it that way. I'...m going to go take a nap now...then have a cocktail and go celebrate with the wife. Thank you again!"

Congrats, Jake! Let's cross our fingers and hope the producers give him a shot!

Jake Rudh in top 10, competitors close on his heels!

As you likely know, local Transmission DJ, party starter and friend to all, Jake Rudh, is in the running for a walk-on role on the hit show Mad Men. Jakes fans, friends and supporters have kept him in the top 10 for the past week or so -- where he'll need to stay if he's to be considered for the roll. With a couple fierce competitors trailing by a mere handful of votes, Jake's top 10 position is somewhat precarious.

The beloved local DJ and all around good guy has promised a killer party if wins - and when Jake throws a party it's guaranteed to be epic.

So, if you want to see Jake on Mad Men, or just want to go to a potentially awesome "thank you" party - VOTE here! We'd love nothing more to see this dapper gent make a cameo on his favorite show. Voting ends Friday, so time is of the essence. Just one click and a captcha and it's done - 15 seconds tops.

Transmission NYC launches

It was only a matter of time. We discovered via Facebook today that Jake Rudh's beloved, 12-years-running dance night Transmission has gone national! Two Transmission regulars who have made the move to the Big Apple, Di Medlock and Hilary Davis, are behind New York's version, Transmission NYC (which will be monthly instead of weekly, but stick to Wednesday nights). The music playlist promises a bunch of Transmission favorites: Brit pop, new wave, indie rock, punk, mod, electro and more. (The flyer illustration is by a Minneapoline as well, Gina Schiappacasse.)

Though not directly related to Transmission, Rudh purportedly gave the go-ahead on the two using the name, according to Medlock. Davis adds, "To be clear, we're not trying to copy him - this is an ode to Jake!" We're sure the two Transmission devotees will do their best to do Rudh justice.

The first edition is planned for Wednesday, September 15 at 200 Orchard. Click for the Facebook invite.

Mad Men Scandal!

Let us summarize it for you: There is a Mad Men contest on AMC. Our favorite DJ, Jake Rudh applies, as well as few other Minneapolites. A girl by the name Jessa Alt submits a pretty bangin' photo for the contest. She gets a gazillion votes. AMC investigates, accuses her of fraud. Jessa is out of the competition.

Jahna Peloquin's has all the details over at Vita.mn. You can also read Jake's comments on his Facebook page, where he speculates that Jessa (and others) were targeted by other cheaters who wanted to make it appear that highly ranked (real) contestants were using auto-voting, hence getting said contestants disqualified and moving themselves up for the win. Sounds rather diabolical and complicated to us, but the internetz are strange and people are crazy. Either way, shame on AMC for not figuring out a way to make the contest 100% fair from the get-go.

Apparently, despite repeated appeals to AMC, Jessa's been told she's screwed: She can re-enter the competition, but will have to start from square one.

Vote for Jake (he is still in the competition).

Update: Jessa is back in the competition with an equally stunning, but different, photo. Vote for her here. From what we've heard, it seems she's an honest person and was unjustly disqualified, so help a lady out.

Vita.mn editor Simon Peter Groebner adds, "I've only met Jessa once, but she doesn't seem like the type to cheat on something like this. That photo, on the other hand, is the cream of the crop. The fiasco reminds me of our Hotness contest -- a few cheaters every year with tons of votes from one IP, and moreover, lots of sabotage votes against others. We cleaned it up on our end, but AMC shouldn't disqualify such an obviously good candidate."

NYE 2010

New Year's Eve Transmission night at Club Jager? I don't know about you, but that sounds irresistible to me and according to my Facebook feed, I'm not the only one.

DJ Jake Rudh sent out a Facebook invitation today "giving the TRANSMISSION group members and night regulars the heads before any word goes to press this year". Consider yourself fortunate if you received this invite; last year's event sold out pretty quickly. 40 people have already responded, so If I were you, I wouldn't wait forever to get my ticket.

Here's the scoop: "Tickets can only be bought from the club (starting Wednesday, December 9th), and will be sold until they run out. They are $5 in advance or $10 the night of. Max of 5 tickets sold per person."

Are you on your way to Jager yet? For realz...

What are YOU doing on NYE?
