5 Hours and 45 Minutes of Mallman

Beloved Minneapolis music staple, Mark Mallman, has taken advantage of YouTube's decision to loosen their video length restrictions by posting his complete discography as a 5 hour and 45 minute playlist. Pop it on and get your Mr. Serious fix all in one shot!

And in case you've noticed the unfortunate lack of Mallmanism around town, it's because he's currently out in L.A., doing cool things like creating musical scores for movies and hobnobbin' with celebs. We, however, know that he'll always consider Minneapolis home, there's a music video confirming it, after all!

Work of Art Finale tonight/Miles curates an exhibit tomorrow

The latest in a series of reality TV stars to emerge from our fair cities is the uber-talented artist, Miles Mendenhall. The U of M grad and printmaker/installation artist/painter has made it to the finale two and will battle it out tonight on the finale ep of Bravo's Work of Art: The Next Great Artist. If he wins, he'll score a big chunk of change plus a solo show at the Brooklyn Museum - way cool. The season finale airs tonight, Wed. August 11th at 9 p.m. on Bravo.

Despite the results of tonight's finale (though obviously our money's on Miles!), tomorrow marks the first day of the rest of Mendenhall's REAL life: an exhibit he's curated at the U of M's Katherine Nash Gallery featuring a handful of scholarship recipient artists (Mendenhall received a scholarship to the U himself). The exhibit, entitled Appreciation, is site specific and collaborative - so expect a lot of installation-based phantasms...and possibly even some reality TV fans. The opening reception happens Thursday, August 12th at the Nash from 7-9pm and is free and open to the public. The show runs through August 26th.

UPDATE: Miles came in third, but he'll always be #1 to us!

We missed MarsCon, dammit.

We really like sci-fi conventions. They are hilarious and the most fun EVER. We had to miss this past weekend's MarsCon, but luckily some of our pals who went snapped pictures of the outrageously nerdy affair.

MN State of Mind

Twitter user @g_rote may have found the best thing I've seen on the local internetz in a while: MN State of Mind. TheAfternoonDLight spoof of Jay-Z and Alicia Keys song "Empire State of Mind." Woot, woot! Just to give you an idea of what this homage to our glorious State is all about, here is a sample of their lyrics:

"Welcome to the hottest spot, MOA where we shop In the winter we can get, a DQ banana split Jumping jack, Jumping jack, Jumping jack, now Im tired Minnesota niceness, up here we know how to act"

This part is pretty good too:
