Link of the Day: The McGangBang

Long before KFC came out with the heart attack-inducing Double Down there was the McGangBang. The McGangBang consists of a McDouble cheese burger with an entire McChicken sandwich jammed in between the beef patties. Of course, this greasy monster isn't on any proper McDonald's menu, but some seasoned employees know just what your talkin' about when you order one. Eat Me Daily chronicled the rise of the cult menu item in a 2009 article that found evidence of the McGangBang being ordered as far back as 2006.

Would you eat this? Maybe Jeremy Messersmith will do another Twitter review, like he did with the Double Down!

AV Club Twin Cities came out with a great article today on how to "handle the Situation". Not just any situation, folks, but Mike "the Situation" from MTV'S Jersey Shore who is making an appearance at Bootleggers this Saturday. Why? Nobody knows. What we do know is that he has a very strict daily routine, better known as GTL - gym, tanning, laundry that he never, ever skips on. Concerned staff of the AV Club want Mike to be at his best when he brings his abs to Bootleggers, so they offered some Twin Cities recommendations for tanning salons, gyms, cleaners and of course, fancy Italian restaurants.


And please, if you go see Mike this Saturday, we want to see some photos.

Thanks to tips from local fashionistas Juleana Enright and Jane Belfry we became aware of Katie, a 5-year-old fashion blogger that Racked.com hired to cover New York Fashion Week. Cute? Definitely. Legit? We're not so sure about that.

Comparisons to the fashion blogging sensation Tavi (who is 13 and blogs over at Style Rookie) are understandable, but in our humble opinion- Katie cannot and should not compete with Tavi. Want proof? Please compare how these two youngsters talk about fashion:


Katie :"I met Carlota, the vice president of Hautelook, and I interviewed her about her job. I told her my favorite color is turquoise, like the flower on her necklace. Then I put on some glitter make-up and lip gloss, talked on my favorite pink phone, and checked my email."


Tavi (in her Marc Jacobs review): "The fabrics moved nicely. The models resembled the tiny graceful figurines that spin in an opened jewelry box, or the human sums of numerous collages crafted by young dreamers out of magazine clippings and backyard finds. There was a clear air of foggy nostalgia that drifted throughout the room, clinging to coattails in shades of pale yellow and grey."

See what we mean? The only thing we can conclude is that Racked.com "hired" Katie as a part of some elaborate PR ploy to get some publicity and sorta make fun of the entire Tavi craze...What are your thoughts - Team Tavi or Team Katie?

Link of The Day: RIP Alexander McQueen

Alexander McQueen, famous British designer and one of the most innovative voices in fashion was found dead Thursday in his London home. He was 40 years old. The news of his death was met with shock around the world, especially in fashion circles where McQueen was perceived as an icon. Local Twitterers were equally shocked:

Guess who's back?

If you thought you would never see his face again smiling at you from giant billboards, you were wrong. W is back. Bob Collins broke the story on News Cut yesterday and it was covered by MNSpeak this morning, where we picked it up.


Located near Wyoming, MN, the billboard is the real deal, according to a Schubert & Hoey Outdoor Advertising rep :“The Bush Miss Me Yet? billboard was paid for by a group of small business owners who feel like Washington is against them. They wish to remain anonymous. They thought it was a fun way of getting out their message.”

All we can think about is: who is next? Barbara?

Today's link of the day comes as a courtesy of @caerickson/@lifterbaron who shared the news that Miley Cyrus's 9-year-old sister Noah is launching a lingerie line for kids. OMG.

We don't even know where to begin with this story. First of all, why is her name Noah? Secondly, does she have parents? I mean, this child has been seen wearing dominatrix clothes, dancing on a stripper pole, singing songs with inappropriate lyrics and now this? A CNBC reporter, who was equally amazed as we are, summed it up really well: " I didn't even know children wore lingerie. I thought they wore pajamas."

Exactly.

Locally-based artist co-op the XYandZ Gallery has thrown their hat into the ring for the Pepsi Great Idea Contest! Each month, the soft drink giant plans to give away $1,300,000 in grants to artists and dreamers. In other words, peeps with great ideas!

XYandZ has proposed a big public art project to transform vacant buildings in the Twin Cities into art installations. They are going for a $50,000 grant for the project. VOTE HERE to move them up in the rankings! They are hover around #100 right now, but with your help we can push them up and beautify the Twin Cities at the same time!

Welcome to the first ever edition of "LOL/OMG link of the day" Starting today, we will (try to) find the coolest, most interesting link that you posted on Facebook, Twitter or your personal blog and we will share it with the rest of the world!

That being said, our first ever link of the day was shared by Judy Grundstrom, of JustJudyJudyJudy blog. Judy realized today that her father knows how to use the internet. Not only does he know how to use it, but he's been blogging since 2007! In all honestly, we all love our moms and dads, but we don't ever want to connect with them online unless it's through personal emails. We've heard horror stories of parents joining Facebook and sending their kids friend requests that they SO wanted to ignore but couldn't. There is even a website devoted to that topic appropriately entitled Oh Crap. My Parents Joined Facebook.

Judy, unlike many of us, loves the fact that her dad is a blogger. (note: she hasn't yet discovered if he's on Facebook or Twitter, which he probably is). He clearly talks to a certain demographic, but he is taking his blogging very seriously, adding just enough humor to make it fun (like when he said Don was a moron). That header is pretty awesome too.
