Doomtree announce secret show tonight

We love it when Soundset happens, because that always means that a bunch of Doomtree cohorts will be in town and things are bound to get crazy. Sure enough, the hip hop collective announced a few hours ago on Twitter that they're doing a secret show somewhere in Minneapolis tonight. Details have been slowly emerging, but from what we gather, it will be post-Get Cryphy, after-hours, and include performances from P.O.S., Mike Mictlan, and frequent Doomtree/Soundset cohorts Spyder Baybie, Bleubird, Astronautalis, and K the I. Your best bet is to head to Get Cryphy at First Avenue's Record Room or the Turnt Up 1 Year Anniversary at Nomad tonight or follow #FREEEBIRD on Twitter.

And we're not sure if these are hints or fake outs, but they made us LOL either way:

P.O.S. to headline Lucé Block Party

Every year on a (usually) hot summer day in August, all the cool kids gather next to Pizza Lucé on Lyndale and 32nd St. in Uptown, eat pizza, drink beer and watch an all-day concert. Some years have been more fun and more consistent than others but this year is shaping up to be rock solid all the way through, with local favorite P.O.S. headlining the August 13 bash.

As for the rest of the acts they include:
Communist Daughter
No Bird Sing
Farewell Continental (which includes Motion City Soundtrack's Justin Pierre)
Charles (featuring Sean Tillmann--a.k.a. Har Mar Superstar)
Me & My Arrow
Spyder Baybie
Phantom Tails
Koo Koo Kanga Roo

Like we said, not a slouch in the bunch and now that summer seems to have officially arrived, we look forward to sweating, chowing pizza and slugging beers with the rest of the city.

Marijuana Deathsquads, Har Mar, P.O.S. play at L.A. strip club

For their gig last night in L.A., local acts Marijuana Deathsquads, Har Mar Superstar, Mike Mictlan, P.O.S., Spyder Baybie Rawdog and Slapping Purses took over strip club Crazy Girls. And the resulting Tweets and TwitPics were LOL/OMG-worthy.

And just cuz it's funny, here's a fan drawing for the Har Mar/Deathsquads residency via Har Mar Superstar's tumblr. If you're in the L.A. area tonight, don't miss the culmination of the Har Mar/Deathsquads weekly residency at The Satellite.

Marijuana Deathsquads + Har Mar to do L.A. residency

This just in via the Modern Radio message board: Marijuana Deathsquads have joined forces with Har Mar Superstar for a monthlong residency at L.A.'s Club Spaceland. It's no big shocker, being that Marijuana Deathsquads collaborator P.O.S. has been recording in L.A. over the past month, Har Mar calls L.A. home these days, and Har Mar and GAYNGS are regular collaborators. They will play every Friday in February.

P.O.S. serves up some gourmet beats

Thanks to our friends over at the Hot Dish blog, we discovered this tasty vid of P.O.S. checking out a NYC restaurant and trading secrets with the chef! According to Hot Dish, Chris Stang and Andrew Steinthal, two New York music insiders (at Atlantic Records and Warner Music's Independent Label Group, respectively), decided to put their know-how about what music-heads want to eat while out and about in NYC to good use by forming the food review website Immaculate Infatuation, a space they describe as being free of "pretentious foodie hobnob." Their latest project brings P.O.S. to Pure Food and Wine restaurant, where he and chef Sarma Melngailis talk about raw zucchini lasagna and how to make beats in a kitchen. Check out the video below.

And TONIGHT'S secret P.O.S. show...

...really is a secret! Here's a vague hint: It's the only place in town where you can get a Bialy!

If that doesn't ring any bells, you can always monitor P.O.S.'s twitter account and hope he drops the secret location at the last minute! Set time: Midnight!

P.O.S. to play surprise show at the Turf tonight

City Pages alerted us to the fact that the hot hip hopper will be making a surprise appearance at the Turf tonight! In anticipation for his performance at Coachella this Friday, Stef and crew have decided to test out their set, much to the delight of Twin Cities fans. Doors open at 7 p.m., with Toki Wright and Marijuana Deathsquad kicking things off. Get there early if you know what's good for ya.

We have reason to believe this isn't the ONLY secret show P.O.S. has up his sleeve this week, as he cryptically tweeted last night: "Some of you know already, but we might try the new set out around mpls and St Paul a few times this week."

Who's Going to Coachella??

The biggest music news today was the much anticipated announcement of this year's Coachella lineup. As always, the three day festival has managed to get the best of the best, from Muse and Jay-Z who are headlining the festival, to up and coming buzz bands such as Girls and Hadouken! We were happy to see that MPLS's own P.O.S. was added to the roster - he announced this morning on his Facebook page that he will be performing on Friday April, 16th which is the same day that Jay-Z is headlining. Just sayin'.

Local music lovers responded to the news, sharing their opinions on the line-up. Some were excited; others .. not so much.

What do you think??

Artist Paul Oxborough honored for painting of P.O.S.

City Pages brings to our attention this news piece about artist Paul Oxborough, whose work was recently accepted into the British Portrait Awards for his striking portrait of local hip hopper and rising star, P.O.S. CP was tipped off by the artist's daughter, Allegra Oxborough, whose name you may recognize from the P.O.S. tune "Optimist": "I made this beat for Allegra Oxborough/She taught me how to do the thing with the cups."

A solo exhibition of Oxborough's paintings are currently on display at the Eleanor Ettinger Gallery in Soho, with a definite nod to the Twin Cities that includes paintings of First Ave coat check workers, Mickey's Diner and more. You can view the entire exhibit online here. Read the City Pages article here.

Golden Boys

Everybody's favorite local radio station, The Current, made a big announcement this morning: "We're proud to announce the line-up of our fifth anniversary party happening on January 29 at First Avenue. Members will get an early chance to get tickets to see Solid Gold, P.O.S., Mason Jennings, Lookbook, and Twilight Hours." We were excited to see a few of our local favorites on the same rooster, which was a general opinion on Twitter this morning. However, @solace (AKA Kyle Matteson from More Cowbell) raised a legit concern:

The post generated a few responses where people mostly agreed with his opinion:
What do you think?? Solid Gold over P.O.S.?
