No more Maneater?
Food/sex bloggess Erica Rivera a.k.a. "Maneater" has been majorly rufflin' feathers of local scenesters with her juicy, TMI blog posts over the past year - many of which thinly veil their sometimes well-known subjects. However, it seems the naughty scribe is turning over a new leaf in 2011, partially due to a change in relationship status!
Rivera claims she's leaving her controversial persona behind "for the time being" to concentrate on a new blog entitled Yummy Luv. According to the former Maneater the new blog will be "more food focused, inspired by the grub my honey and I have made together (aww)."
So, ladies and gents, breathe easy, your debaucherous activities will remain off the interwebz..."for the time being!"

Unreleased MPLS punk documentary to play on MTN
Way cool! Longtime punk scene staple and Drinking with Ian co-conspirator Ollie Stench has worked some magic to bring the long-buried '90s music doc When We Play for Real to local cable access.
Stench says via his Facebook event:
"In the late 90's film maker Patti Rhodes chronicled the Minneapolis punk scene in her documentary "When We Play For Real". This was never officially released, but now with Patti's OK I have submitted it to Mpls cable access."
An insider's tour of the '90s punk scene, Rhodes' documentary takes you on a nostalgic tour of the good ol' days, complete with spiked hair, pierced noses and hardcore tuneage. The film will air four times in January on MTN Channel 17:
Tuesday 1/4 at Midnight
Friday 1/7 at 1:30am
Saturday 1/15 at Midnight
Wednesday 1/29 at 3:30am.

Fat Kid Wednesdays ending their 12 year residency at the Turf
More news coming in via Twitter on the continuing drama of the Turf Club management changes: improvisational jazz group Fat Kid Wednesdays is officially ending their 12-year Monday night Jazz Implosion residency at the Turf's basement Clown Lounge. The decision probably has something to do with the fact the Turf will no longer be open on Sundays and Mondays, according to Gimme Noise's interview with new manager Josh James.
UPDATE: Punk poet Paul D has confirmed to us that his long-running Riot Act Reading Series (typically held once a month on Sunday at the Turf) will be canceled/relocated as well.

MC/VL final show moved to the 501 Club
The recent shake up over at the Turf Club left a number of upcoming shows displaced, including the much anticipated MC/VL final show.
Well, every cloud has a silver lining. According to Facebook the show has been moved to the soon-to-be closed 501 Club on Saturday, January 8th (the last day of the bar's operation, following the Curtiss A show). The 501 gets the blowout closing party it deserves, MC/VL gets to say goodbye on schedule and all is right with the world, sorta. As far as the Turf, word came down that it will officially re-open on January 11th under new management. Gimme Noise has the scoop via an interview with new manager (and longtime Turf drink-slinger) Josh James.

We have to say, it was hard for us to narrow down just one Twitter personality to select as "best." In 2010 the stripped-down social media platform truly caught the attention of the world - and just like that, your mom was following you (scream!). Sure, we COULD have gone with the smartest tweeter, the most informative or the like, but instead we decided to take a little inspiration from our spin-off social media gossip blog LOL/OMG (thanks to a suggestion from clever twitter babe, @vruno) and break it all down into three entertaining categories: LOL (the funniest tweeter), OMG (the most outrageous tweeter) and WTF (the tweeter that most frequently makes us scratch our heads). This prolific Twitterati seems to live his life via social media, giving his followers solid play-by-play action on a daily basis, often times late into the night. Our favorite WTF @JohnWallaceMPLS moments often occur after hours, once he's sufficiently #JUICED. Follow @JohnWallaceMPLS HERE.

Weekend Twitterings
Welcome to the first edition of Weekend Twitterings in 2011. We thank you so much for entertaining us with your tweets all year long- keep up the good work!

Turf Club changing management
We've got the scoop (thanks to Gimme Noise) on Saturday's cancellation of the Marijuana Deathsquads show and the impromptu closing of the Turf Club. Mere hours before the doors were to open Saturday, a sign was placed on the window that stated "Closed for Repairs" and Deathsquads honcho Ryan Olson posted on Facebook that the show was canceled. Fishy, right?
Speculations raged, but on Sunday word came from Turf Club owner Tom Scanlon that the bar is simply changing management. 15-year Turf staffer and ousted manager Dave Wiegardt was integral in turning the divey Midway club from a bland blue collar watering hole into one of the epic mainstays of the Twin Cities music scene. Reasons behind his departure were not released. Taking the reigns as of January 11th is Josh James, a veteran Turf employee.
According to the press release, "New hours of operation and a new direction will be the hallmarks of the re-working of the venerable jewel of the midway," and "Focus on local music will remain the cornerstone of the business."
We don't like the words "new direction" when it comes to something as classic and iconic as the Turf, but be won't get our pitchforks and torches out quite yet. The fact that the new manager is an internal hire is absolutely a good thing, so we're trying not to get our Turf-lovin' panties in a bunch.
Word has it that the Turf Club will re-open as of January 11th. Re-booking of displaced shows in the interim is currently being hashed out - most notably, next Saturday's MC/VL goodbye show.

Gayngs makes Gawker's top 15 songs of the year list
After a slew of national year-end nods from the likes of Pitchfork and NPR, "No Sweat" by Gayngs was one of 15 songs that made Gawker's Favorite Music of 2010 list.
They say:
"Listen to while: Coming down from your 18-hour coke binge; locking yourself in your room for a few days to think about art; not wearing clothes when you talk to your servants.
Accompany with: Vicodin, red wine, circles under your eyes"
LOL! You can stream the track at Gawker.
(Also, they made #22 on the Guardian UK's top albums of the year list...we somehow missed it when it came out a couple of weeks ago.)
