No more Maneater?

Food/sex bloggess Erica Rivera a.k.a. "Maneater" has been majorly rufflin' feathers of local scenesters with her juicy, TMI blog posts over the past year - many of which thinly veil their sometimes well-known subjects. However, it seems the naughty scribe is turning over a new leaf in 2011, partially due to a change in relationship status!

Rivera claims she's leaving her controversial persona behind "for the time being" to concentrate on a new blog entitled Yummy Luv. According to the former Maneater the new blog will be "more food focused, inspired by the grub my honey and I have made together (aww)."

So, ladies and gents, breathe easy, your debaucherous activities will remain off the interwebz..."for the time being!"

l'etoile's Best of 2010: Tweeters, bloggers and more

On New Year's Eve, our sister-site l'etoile busted out with their annual "Best of" list, which featured staffers' favorite people, places and things of 2010. Among the categories, was "Best Tweeters" in which they narrowed down the Twittersphere to three fun categories (see below). We have to say, it was hard for us to narrow down just one Twitter personality to select as "best." In 2010 the stripped-down social media platform truly caught the attention of the world - and just like that, your mom was following you (scream!). Sure, we COULD have gone with the smartest tweeter, the most informative or the like, but instead we decided to take a little inspiration from our spin-off social media gossip blog LOL/OMG (thanks to a suggestion from clever twitter babe, @vruno) and break it all down into three entertaining categories: LOL (the funniest tweeter), OMG (the most outrageous tweeter) and WTF (the tweeter that most frequently makes us scratch our heads). The handle alone is almost OMG enough! Whenever we're feeling grumpy, we just take a trip over to @meatpit's Twitter feed for a good laugh. Also known as local scenestress Alicia Zobbe-Hogdal, @meatpit's tweets are frequently NSFW, will probably shock you more often than not, and may even scar for life those with delicate sensibilities. This prolific Twitterati seems to live his life via social media, giving his followers solid play-by-play action on a daily basis, often times late into the night. Loud, brassy and sassy, John Wallace takes us all over Minneapolis with plenty of caps, exclamation points, and LOL-worthy hashtags. Thanks to Becky Lang for posting this oh-so insightful quote on her blog, courtesy of christwire.org, a site, we've found offers an endless supply of things to laugh at/be appalled by. Between rants about who's going to hell and who isn't, filling you in on the downside of being a "fag hag" and even contemplating whether or not gay pets go to heaven, they still have time to give props to the Cheesecake Factory.

So take note, hipsters, ya'll better stop masturbating and blogging or it's straight to hell with the lot of you! LOLZ! (hipster internet slang)

Sorgatz and Carr a la Nic Rad

Now this is brilliant arts marketing! Artist Nic Rad has painted 99 pretty amazing portraits of influential bloggers and media-types and will debut this collection at Rare Gallery in NYC on April 3rd. Cool, eh? If we know the narcissism that goes hand in hand with new media (and we do), this artist has hit the jackpot. How many of his well-read subjects do you expect have re-posted his website? We'd think if even a handful of them did, it would guarantee a packed opening and some automatic notoriety.

The local connection? Well, former Minneapolis social media dynamo/MNSpeak creator Rex Sorgatz and ex-City Pages editor and author David Carr (now of the NY Times) are both featured in the show. We know Rex has already re-posted it on his blog AND on wired.com.
