Ula Goes to a Block Party

Hilarious video of the day comes courtesy of MPLS.TV and their fabulous young reporter Ula Brown. She's European, you should probably know that before you actually watch the video.

So, Ula goes to Basilica Block Party and asks random folks questions like: "What the f**k are you wearing?" or "What is going on with your hair? This is... not even real." or "Do your feet sweat?" At one point, she actually smells some guy's feet. Here's the video:

Jason vs. Jason

If you've been following Twitter at all today, you know the race is ON to see who can raise the most moola for a good cause! Both Jason Matheson and Jason DeRusha are heading up fundraising efforts for the United Way. On one side, we have Matheson as captain of Team Shelter, on the other, DeRusha as captain of Team Hunger. Other personalities Vineeta Sawkara and Rena Sarigianopoulos head up teams for literacy and wellness.

AND, after careful consideration LOL/OMG has decided to officially endorse DeRusha - our fellow unapologetic social media whore. He's currently in last place and we always like a good underdog. Vote for your favorite Team Hunger HERE.

Update: Team Hunger has climbed into 3rd place!

But we have to give props where props are due: Today, Matheson released a hilarious video encouraging people to stop Jason DeRusha's ego from getting any bigger by voting for team Shelter. We can't wait for the response video!

UPDATE: DeRusha tweeted us his own promo video. And while he doesn't really take any jabs at Matheson, he does randomly manage to sit under a Save Canvas sign (#street cred) while eating a tub of butter.

Local artistic directors get the fake Twitter treatment

Everybody likes a good fake Twitter account. Proof? Check out the accounts for fake Steve Jobs, fake LeBron James and of course, there's the fake Jason DeRusha. Joining them this month are Bain Boehlke, artistic director of the Jungle Theater and Joe Dowling, Artistic Director for the Guthrie Theater. Boehlke's fake Twitter bio says; "All of my chakras are spinning", and Dowling's simply says: "I run the Guthrie Theater. LIKE A BOSS." LOL!

Really though, it's because of the years and years of hard work by people like Boehlke and Dowling that the Twin Cities is so often recognized as theater hot spot on a national level -- and that helps all of us. Hopefully they both have a good sense of humor!

National Poetry Slam to descend on St. Paul

Since St. Paul's kick ass slam poetry team took home the gold at last year's national competition, they've been bestowed the honor of hosting the huge event this year! From August 3rd-August 7th, over 500 of the country's best slam poets will take over our capital city for an epic face off. How cool is that?

Girl wonders to unite in the name of rock n' roll!

If this happens it could be really quite epic/awesome/brilliant!

We noticed a Facebook convo between local rock n' roll babes Mayda Miller (Mayda) and Laura Bennett (Red Pens). And being our nosey selves, we had to inquire.


We messaged Mayda asking her "For realz?" and for permission to spill the beans on LOL/OMG, to which she responded in the affirmative and said "we got a little something stirring. maybe a little doowoppy... a little sassy... laura in beehives and paint. you want in?"

And while we were rather flattered by invitation, the fact that we can't even properly clap to a beat ruled out us joining the band -- but we will definitely be the first ones on the bandwagon when it actually happens! We can't wait to hear what these two talented broads cook up for us! And now that it's been written about, they're totally obligated to go through with it, right?

Plus, they are both hot and totally bad ass, so they've already got that part of "successful band" covered:
