Weekend Twitterings

Welcome to Weekend Twitterings - 4th of July edition! We monitored your activities (of course) and it seems everybody had a pretty great extended weekend. Well, except Mary who fell backwards off the boat and into the river. What else has happened?

Best promotion ever.

Yep, they don't.

Amen.

Beware of the renegade hula hoopers.

This happened.

Sorry, but LOL!

Congrats boys!

Yep, Brother Ali gets one too!

Prince killed it at Roskilde.

Fireworks bring neighbors closer together.

What does that even mean?

Niiiiiice.

You see?

Awwwww. But lets not pretend you didn't enjoy it a little!

This Week in (Uploaded) Pictures

Tucker Gerrick and pals stop off for some ice cream at Granny's Pantry in Battle Lake.

WTF of the Week: Chuck Visger snaps this hilarious pic at the CONvergence Convention.

Sean Smuda does Devo.

Hillary Weeks spots a strange sign in St. Paul.

Allison LaBonne snaps Ali Lozoff getting up close and personal with a robot over the holiday weekend, surprisingly NOT at the CONvergence convention.

Meredith Westin snaps peeps rockin' out at the Taste. We wonder what that guy is smoking!

Stephen Trevino of 526 Salon does makeup for l'etoile's "Midsummer Night's Dream" photo shoot with the Strange Capers.

Paul Durham relaxes on the beach at Madeleine Island.

Steve Marsh visits the sculpture garden in downtown Des Moines over the holiday weekend.

Former Minneapolitan Isaac Arvold and pal get cozy in a hammock.

Matt Perkin's snaps P.O.S. rocking the Current's traveling mustache at the Taste. We certainly hope they have more than one of those things. #germs

Another Con pic: Stephen Stephens captures the essence of the CONvergence Convention perfectly. Everything about this picture is freaking awesome.

Brant Kingman and his "tribe." We miss the Kingman parties!

The Red Pens' Laura Bennett shoots birds being creepy. Like in the movie "Birds" ya know?

Apryl Electra cruises around in a golf cart over the 4th of July weekend. Too cute!

@myklroventine's Barbie pool party gets a little wild.

Diamond Dog eating contest at the new Depot Tavern!

Jeremy Messersmith reporting live from CONvergence!

Jeremy Messersmith here with a report from CONvergence. I'll be working this weekend as a l'etoile Magazine correspondent. The main fashion event, The Masquerade, is being held later this evening at 7pm, but I thought a few photos might give you a taste of what the biggest sci-fi convention in the midwest is like:

It's common to see lovingly crafted costumes, and people posing for several minutes so everyone can take snapshots.

There are all sorts of parties, panels and clubs at CONvergence, some delve deep into sci fi theology.

Steam punk equals 1 part Victorian attire, 1 part goggles, and 1 part HUGE GUNS.

Culinary fans will also find CONvergence a source of unorthodox food choices...most of the served on toast.

I chose nutella, marshmallow creme and banana. It may not look like much, but it was delish.

There are flyers everywhere for different events, but I zeroed in on this one by local sci-fi writer/Jagercon regular Rob Callahan.

Follow Jeremy's twitter throughout the weekend to read about all his exploits at the CONvergence Convention. And check back next week for his full review of the event!

Solid Gold to be featured in Mpls.TV's "City of Music"

This just in via the @MPLSTV Twitter feed: Solid Gold are the next band to be featured in the Mpls.TV's "City of Music" project. Looks like an abbreviated lineup of the band (Matt Locher, Zachary Coulter and Adam Hurlburt) are rockin' some wacky futuristic gear in the uploaded Twitpic - no doubt with lighting help from their resident lighting guru, Bryant Locher.

Previous "City of Music" performances have featured Hildur Victoria, Eyedea & Abilities, and Lookbook.

Search #cityofmusic on Twitter for future updates on the project!
