Robyne Goes Political?

Robyne Robinson's sudden departure from FOX 9 came as a surprise to everybody. Just a couple weeks later, an even bigger shocker comes from the beloved news anchor: according to various news sources, Robyn is considering being Democrat Matt Entenza's running mate in the race for governor in 2010.

After an unknown source leaked it to the Pioneer Press Monday morning, RR was quoted as saying "I think that there are certain times when you're called to public service and you have to weigh the offer with gravitas. So that's what I'm doing. I am weighing it incredibly heavily." City Pages Blotter also reports: Robyne's publicist Kate Iverson, confirms that Entenza has extended the offer to Robinson and that she is considering it. Fox 9 confirmed it tonight as well.

It's official: LOL/OMG to host monthly social media party at the 501!

As of July 1st, LOL/OMG will be hosting a social media party every first Thursday of the month at the 501 Club!

What does this mean? Well, aside from creating a totally awesome Foursquare swarm, social media geeks will get a chance to mix, mingle, drink, tweet, and rock out with some of our favorite bands that have been featured on the blog!

More details to come, but mark your calendars for the kick off blow out on JULY 1ST at the 501!

After weeks of online voting, the One Man Minneapolis contest comes to a close Thursday at Midnight, so get your votes in while the getting's good! The competition identifies the one man in the Twin Cities who represents the best of the best from the perspectives of community involvement, personality, intelligence and fitness. What's better? The winner gets to donate $2500 to a local charity of his choice!

Our money is on l'etoile ad manager and selfless bastard, Brian Gioielli, who is not only adorable and cool as all get out, but is one of those rare peeps that relentlessly donates his time and talents to local charities and non-profit orgs for the greater good. We think Brian is tops! The other "One Men" finalists aren't too shabby either, so check out the site and vote for your fave!

Tonight, Thursday May 20th you can meet the men at OM Restaurant in Downtown Minneapolis from 5-7pm. Or you can pick up tix to the main event on Saturday at the Pantages: a glorious man pageant that features live music, interviews with the top five dudes, an evening wear competition, and even a (potentially hilarious) work out segment. We recommended our pal Brian do a thigh master/interpretive dance routine if he's selected, but e-mails went unreturned.

Har Mar, GAYNGS members join forces tonight at N+E

GAYNGS and Har Mar Superstar seem to be the gifts that keep on giving. Hot off big shows this past weekend, two of the biggest locally-bred acts are (sort of) joining forces for a just announced appearance tonight. It's part of Nick + Eddie's weekly Marijuana Death Squads jam session/dance party, which recently played host to a secret P.O.S. show. First up, members of Solid Gold/GAYNGS will be playing a set with hot Brooklyn act JBM; then Colin Johnson of Vampire Hands, who moved to Montana last winter, will perform under his new moniker, CapricornVerticalSlums. Finally, an epic jam session featuring all of the former with Marijuana Death Squads (featuring GAYNGS producer Ryan Olson)
and Har Mar Superstar will finish off the night. It's sure to be an all-around epic night.

The 30 Days of Creativity challenge starts June 1st

We love this! The latest social media challenge is one part "Make Something Cool Every Day"and one part #30daysofbiking. But don't worry, lazy bones, you don't actually have to exercise anything but your creative muscles! 30daysofcreativity.com challenges Twin Citians to do something artistic every day in the month of June and blog/Tweet/Facebook about it -- whether it's making something new each and every day or just working on/documenting one big project over the month. And we've totally signed up already! And by "signed up" we mean tweeted "We're in!" to @createstuff.

The group encourages communications and critiques via the twitter hashtag #30DaysofCreativity. So start idea-generating...June 1st is the kick off!

Join the Trash Novel Book Club!

We're excited to tell you about the Trash Novel Book Club, "an online book club, started by Courtney McClean & The Dirty Curls and cosponsored by l'etoile magazine, for the reading and discussing of the trashiest books ever written. It’s like Oprah’s Book club, except even tackier; also: actually fun!"

This is how it works: Dirty Curls select one book per month and post the selection to Facebook, where you can discuss with other book lovers. You can also comment on Twitter using the #TNBC hash tag.

This month's novel is Valley of the Dolls by Jacqueline Susann, which according to Dirty Curls is "one of the greatest trash novels ever written".
