100 Local Artists. One Album.

Tom Smouse, local music producer and freelance engineer, is in the midst of a very cool and very ambitious endeavor entitled A Glass of Ocean and he needs your help. Smouse managed to get over 100 local musicians (including Chris Koza, White Light Riot and many many more) to donate their time and talent towards creation of the new album, To My Bees Knees. A video was created on Kickstarter with the goal to bring this project to light and to seek funding for its completion.

Smouse describes the project:

My plan was to create an album in small pieces, where every artist focused on one song, one part, and not the whole of the album. Each song featured different players, different influences, and dynamic collaborations. So far, the project has gathered folk bands and soulful pop groups. I have mixed jazz players with bluegrass bands, rock bands with solo acoustic artists. What started as a small circle of close friends gradually turned into 100 different musicians all willing to donate their time and craft to help write, arrange, and bring my ideas to life.

I think this special project should be released in a special way, vinyl. Kickstarter will allow us to move forward with this recording project, mix it using a variety of engineers with Minnesota connections, press a limited edition vinyl, and launch a website to showcase this community of artists that graced this story with their skills.

The project will only be funded if at least $5,000 is pledged by Tuesday Feb 8, 2011.
