Jason DeRusha: American Hero
Yes, it's true. Our favorite WCCO fixture fame-whored himself out at Target Field on Wednesday to sing the national anthem "Take Me Out to the Ballgame." He actually has quite a nice singing voice, if you ask us!
Jason took to his DeBlog to tell the tale. And much like Jason DeRusha Day last year, all the media mogul had to do was mention it and opportunity came a-knockin'.
JD didn't exactly get VIP treatment, however. He notes a couple lessons learned on his blog:
You don't get a ticket to the game (the singers are usually already there for pregame stuff).
You don't get a jersey or anything (my wardrobe was my own).
You don't even get a free hot dog (I paid $5.25 for my grilled big dog with onions and bag of potato chips).
There is no echo in the stadium, which is cool, and made it much easier to sing. But it's hard to hear the organ, and that's my excuse for why I sound a bit flat. "Pitchy" to quote Simon Cowell.
WCCO vids apparently don't embed, so click HERE to watch. Congrats Jason, you are LOL/OMG's American hero of the day!

Man Walks Into an Apple Store
Man walks into an Apple store to complain about his brand new iPhone 4. What is wrong with it? It keeps face-dialing any time It's held between man's ear and shoulder, which is OK if you are actually trying to make a call. If not, then it's not so great. Here's how the visit went. Read it and learn, in case you ever have to go yourself.
- Heading to the Apple Store to have them check out my iPhone 4 proximity sensor problems.
- My iPhone keeps face-dialing any time I use it held between my ear and shoulder.
- The Apple genius bar guy just watched me replicate the issue.
- Wow. Apple store just told me they can't help me with my brand new iPhone until Apple officially diagnoses the proximity sensor problem.
- They said I was probably holding my iPhone wrong. I've been holding phones for 28 years, so that's bullshit.
- The fact that I replicated the problem right at the Apple Store and still got turned away REALLY concerns me.
- Hey Apple, this is my SIXTH iPhone. I've held the other 5 correctly, so what makes the proximity sensor in this one so different?
- I'm also having the problem with dropping calls if I touch the phone without a case.
- Thanks for being patient with my rant. Must find comfort foods to quell my frustration. Who wants ice cream!?!
We do, we do!

P.O.S. serves up some gourmet beats
Thanks to our friends over at the Hot Dish blog, we discovered this tasty vid of P.O.S. checking out a NYC restaurant and trading secrets with the chef! According to Hot Dish, Chris Stang and Andrew Steinthal, two New York music insiders (at Atlantic Records and Warner Music's Independent Label Group, respectively), decided to put their know-how about what music-heads want to eat while out and about in NYC to good use by forming the food review website Immaculate Infatuation, a space they describe as being free of "pretentious foodie hobnob." Their latest project brings P.O.S. to Pure Food and Wine restaurant, where he and chef Sarma Melngailis talk about raw zucchini lasagna and how to make beats in a kitchen. Check out the video below.

Weekend Twitterings
#minneapolismonsoon + Pride= an incredibly eventful weekend. Read away!
Yep, US is out of the World Cup.
Yeah. Pix, @DeRushaJ, pix.
What does that even mean?
OMG. People are awesome.
Yeah, P.O.S. saw Beyonce. How was your weekend?
Awesome.
Is that a step up or down from a leopard print party bus?
That shouldn't be too hard to find in this city, right?
but it ain't!
Those are the best.
After a few of those, they are going to start to sound really good.
Awwww...
We wonder what that is like...
What the hellz?

space150 designs Times Square billboard for Forever 21
Local interactive marketing agency space150 has just designed a billboard advertisement for fast fashion giant Forever 21, and it debuted in Times Square on Friday morning. The billboard features a model walking in front of an image of the crowd below. The twist: she occasionally leans over, and appears to pluck someone out of the crowd. The eyecatching ad was reposted by space 150's Corey Tenold via Facebook.
The program uses computer vision technology – never employed in Times Square before – to allow larger than life onscreen Forever21 models to interact with passersby on the streets below, said the company.
It's quite the coup for the boutique agency. Congrats!

Times Square Billboard by Space150 from Cliff Kuang on Vimeo.
"Since it sits above a pedestrianized part of Times Square, we knew there would be big crowds in front of this billboard all day," says James Squires, Space150's director of technology. "But people only look at billboards for six seconds on average. We wanted to extend that."The program uses computer vision technology – never employed in Times Square before – to allow larger than life onscreen Forever21 models to interact with passersby on the streets below, said the company.

The Heavy Table gets some CNN love
Minneapolis' Heavy Table got some love from CNN today: the local food/drink magazine was featured in the "Blogger Spotlight" section of Eatocracy, CNN's newest food blog. Eatocracy, whose official launch was just a week ago, is described as a place for "smart, passionate conversation and information about food news, politics, culture." Every weekday, they're highlighting a local or regional blogger they think you ought to know about. Heavy Table is represented by the editor James Norton who says there's a "real food revolution here in the Upper Midwest, focused on a booming farmers market movement, world-caliber local cheese, a craft beer boom and a renewed interest in old-fashioned techniques like canning, pickling and foraging." Well said Norton!
And here's a bonus for all of you food lovers out there: Food Network Magazine says Pastrami & Egg at Be’wiched Deli is the best breakfast dish in Minnesota. Word.
